A week has passed since the battle for Havana City reached it's height. Since that time, telegraph channels have been rapidly re-opening, and news from the city is coming in at a steady pace. Thus far, the biggest major events in that time period are as follows.
After two days of heavy fighting, Police forces fell back in disarray to the Capitol building from all fronts. Casaulty figures are reported to be high, and it is known that there were at least 670 officers left who are willing and able to bear arms. Of those, at least 540 of them took cover in the Capitol. Police Chief Leonardo Bolivar is known to have been killed during the fighting.
The Loyalists of the 5th Infantry division held out for one more day, due to superior training, but eventually fell back as more of their ranks were either killed, or fled into the arms of the rebels. From the city, they fell back to the 1st Artillery Division, who continued to bombard rebels from the countryside.
A day later, the combined Loyalists were attacked by a seemingly endless wave of rebel forces, and were subsequentally forced from the province of Havana.
As for the rioters, most of them were killed by differing Embassy personel, and a great deal fell back in retreat after suffering catastrophic casaulties.
A day later, President Menocal from the newly established temporary capital of Santiago de Cuba, has asked for help from foreign nations in the Caribbean to push the rebels out of Havana, and the capital. Of the military forces who were stationed in Santiago de Cuba, only a small margin of them remained to fight for Menocal. The rest are en route to Havana City, apparently ready to plead for amnesty.
The next two days consisted of cleaning up resistance in Havana City, and the provinces surrounding Havana itself up to Camagüey, which have been claimed by the rebels as the Socialist Republic of Cuba. They met heavy resistance at the border of Camagüey and Las Tunas. All of the land consisting of everything past Las Tunas is being refered to by rebels as Nationalist Cuba. President Menocal insists that he still has control over the country, however.
On the last day of this week, Police forces in the Capitol building officially surrendered, along with the Loyalist Military forces, who were routed in Matanzas. The General Secretary of the Marxist Party, José Martí, has claimed leadership of the Socialist Republic of Cuba as its president. With that proclamation, the fighting in this new Cuba has ended.
President Martí has allowed Ramon Salazar to retain control over the military after taking an oath to Marxism and all of its tenants. After, Salazar took a large portion of the military forces who had defected, and is bringing them to Camagüey to begin planning for the invasion of Nationalist Cuba.
President Martí has also asked for help among the foreign community to end the reign of Menocal in Nationalist Cuba. As of now, in terms of pure military strength, it appears that the new Socialist Republic will ultimately triumph over the Nationalists.
